Finger Painting

Finger Painting

Painted long before you travelled into heat;
before you could write much or read at all
when you chattered and sang the days bright for us.
Before we were struck into silence.

A bright red comet splashes, burning alarm
across the bluest of skies.  The sun,
hard, spiky yellow, top left, is blurring to green
where you tried so hard for a perfect match
with the edge of the sky.
And the stick people on the ground?  ‘That’s Daddy and Mummy.
Daddy is coming to make the comet go away.’
Black letters below, struggling to shape your name.
